Two-time Ironman world champion Craig Alexander believes Saturday’s Abu Dhabi International Triathlon could be the most open endurance race of the year.
The Australian star believes any one of ten athletes could cross the finish line first at the Corniche this weekend, making it one of the most exciting and unpredictable events on the sport’s calendar.
Alexander, 37, is a pre-race favorite himself as he is only the fourth man in history to win the Ironman World Championship two years in a row when he triumphed in 2008 and 2009.
Despite arriving in the UAE capital confident of winning the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority-backed race, he is fully aware that he is in for a massive battle because of the strength in the elite field.
