Belgium’s Bart Aernouts and Great Britain’s Jodie Swallow earned the victories at Ironman 70.3 South Africa thanks to strong all-around performances.
Aernouts combined a 26:45 swim, a 2:15:39 bike and 1:17:21 run to win in 4:03:53. Switzerland’s Ronnie Schildknecht earned second, with Great Britain’s Tim Don jumping up from ITU racing to take third.
Swallow, the 2010 Ironman 70.3 World Champion, dominated the women’s field, posting the fastest swim, bike and run times. Her 25:11 swim, 2:38:05 bike and 1:26:56 half marathon easily gave her the 4:34:30 victory. Great Britain’s Susie Hignett earned second nine minutes later, with the Czech Republic’s Lucie Reed earning third.
