Ironman World Championship race week on the Big Island is full of buzz, anticipation and plenty of nervous athletes. No place in Kona better captures that energy than Dig Me Beach (an unofficial name), the site of the race’s swim start. Every morning at 7 a.m. athletes flock to the beach, located next to Kona’s pier, to get a practice swim in on the course, show off the results of their hard work and to size up the competition. One highlight of the beach for competitors and fans is the Kona coffee boat. If you can make the journey out to the boat, you’re rewarded with a shot of espresso and oftentimes some free swag.

See photos and video from Dig Me above, and check back next week for all of the pre-race action at the 2013 Ironman World Championship.
