Instead of a traditional triangular turn buoy, the Saint Louis Triathlon debuted a 9-foot flamingo to mark the turnaround point for swimmers. Prior to the event, race organizers sold spectators raffle tickets for a chance to win a chance to watch the swim from the giant flamingo. All proceeds went to The Backstoppers, a local organization supporting police officers, firefighters, and paramedics. Photo: Susan Lacke
