Bucket List–Worthy: 30 Images from the Inaugural Patagonman Xtri

See one of the most epic parts of the world and compete in the toughest triathlon of your life? Win-win! Participants from 45 countries jumped off the ferry boat on Sunday morning to start the inaugural iron-distance event. Athletes battled a cold and dark swim in the Aysén Fjord, cycled against the famous Patagonian winds, and then ran through one of the most beautiful (and difficult) run courses on the planet. Former XTERRA world champion Mauricio Mendez (MEX) was the first athlete at the finish line in 8:52:02, with Lucy Gossage (GBR) taking the women’s title at 10:21:21. Registration for the inaugural event was limited to a couple hundred athletes. The lottery for next year’s race is expected to open in January.
