Athletes from across the world competed in the inaugural Hispaman Xtreme Triathlon in Eastern Spain last weekend. The race, which is modeled after the legendary Norseman Xtreme Triathlon, took athletes through a tough long-distance race. The 3800m swim was developed around the majestic Peñíscola’s Castle. Then the 180km bike took athletes through a tough route that included 3,500 meters of elevation gain. Finally, athletes (and their support crews) battled through a brutal 42km trail run that crossed the Natural Park of Penyagolosa. The day ended at the finish line in Vistabella del Maestrat.

How tough was this race? The winner, Spain’s Rafael Espinar, reached the finish line at 12 hours, 43 minutes. The fastest woman to finish was Great Britain’s Michelle Parsons at over 18 hours.

The race is set to become part of the Xtri World Tour Circuit. Stay updated on this potential bucket list adventure at Hxtri.com.
