We’ve partnered with Major League Triathlon to live stream the second race of its third season. Here’s everything you need to know about catching the fast-paced mixed relay competition this weekend.
What: The pro-only event welcomes a field made up of a mix of bigger international names (Olympians and world champions) and up-and-coming short-course stars. The teams compete in the thrilling mixed relay format (which will debut at the Olympics in 2020), made up of 2 men and 2 women alternating and each completing a 300-meter swim, 4-mile looped bike, and a 1-mile run before tagging off to their teammate. The first team to have all four athletes across the line wins.
Where: Avon, Colorado’s Nottingham Park hosts the second stop of the four-city series. The athletes will swim in Nottingham Lake and then bike and run without having to leave the park. The event is known for being the most spectator friendly race on MLT’s schedule.
When: The race takes place on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 4:30 p.m. MDT. From start to finish, the race takes about 70 minutes.
How to Stream: For the first time ever, you can catch all of the action live on Triathlete’s Facebook page.
Why You Should Care: Major League Triathlon’s CEO Daniel Cassidy is on a mission to make triathlon more spectator friendly and more relevant on the American sports’ scene. His formula of the mixed relay format plus a team-based league seems to fit the bill. The format itself is more relevant than ever thanks to its inclusion in the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The Teams: Find your hometown team (or your favorite pro!) and root them on this Saturday.
