Americans Ben Kanute, Joe Maloy and Katie Zaferes are set to compete in their first race since qualifying for Rio.

Three of the six Rio-bound USA Triathlon team members will compete in the 2016 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, set to take place on Sunday, June 12. Ben Kanute, Joe Maloy and Katie Zaferes are set to represent the United States in triathlon at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and will also compete in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon for the first time.

“The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon has been on my ‘triathlon to-do list’ for a few years so I am thrilled to be competing,” said Joe Maloy. “Escape from Alcatraz is a great race for my Rio prep. The Olympic course is going to demand a similar type of effort, so Escape provides a singular opportunity to practice those skills.”

More than 20 of the world’s top triathletes will round out the field including six-time Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon champion Andy Potts, Heather Jackson, Lauren Goss, Greg Bennett, Cameron Dye, Sarah Haskins, Eric Lagerstrom, Magali Tisseyre and many more.
