American professional Amy Marsh, a four-time Ironman winner, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) last week. Marsh’s husband Brandon, who is also a professional triathlete, shared the news on their website in a blog post titled “Life Gave Us a Lemon.”

“On Tuesday, 23 December 2014, Amy was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML),” he wrote. “The Dr. is optimistic that Amy will respond well to the treatment though it is still very early. Positive vibes, thoughts, prayers, etc. are welcomed.”

The couple discovered the cancer after a hematology appointment and subsequent bone marrow biopsy brought on by a season of blood tests showing “something was definitely off.” As of the blog post (Dec. 28), Marsh was already on her fourth of seven days of chemo due to the quick-moving nature of the disease.
