The gold group was created in 2009 as a means of raising the profile of the sport’s top athletes, their National Federations and to build global awareness of triathlon’s stars. The group is selected based on ranking in the 2010 ITU WCS and medals earned at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. A new group will be named after the third race of the ITU WCS in Madrid on June 5, 2011.
