I've heard good things about prolotherapy for hamstrings. I went through this same decision process, and I know it's hard. You'll make the right choice..

I hope you get your treatment (surgery or whatever will help you most) and have a speedy recovery.

I read this last night and tried to think some profound, empathetic and comforting things to say. I didn't post last night, so that tells you how I did ... guess I put the pathetic in empathetic. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. When do you get the results from the MRI?

    AHHHHHH!!!
Oh my triathlon peeps! You of all people will understand how absolutely THRILLED I am!!

Results from ortho appointment ...wait for it... NO MENISCAL TEAR!!!

I have wear on the underside of knee cap which has likely been causing Patella Femoral Syndrome (misalignment of knee cap) which actually has many of the same symptoms of a torn meniscus. The upside however is that more exercise isn't going to make it worse. Well. Okay. It'll cause pain but no structural damage. AND. Double upside, the imbalance can be fixed by strengthening the weakness and stretching the tight places.

    All SO doable!

    So. Ironman 2010?!?

    Some thoughts...
...before I hear the "official" verdict on Tuesday.

To add some interest to the mix...I've finally gotten an appointment w/local chronic pain doctor, who uses prolotherapy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prolotherapy) - traditionally used for osteoarthritis particularly in hip/back - but according to the interwebs has been used successfully on meniscus.

I still figure the Orthopedic surgeon is going to recommend NO surgery. My family doctor tells me that I have the right to demand the surgery anyway. From what I've researched, the risk of throwing a clot is real but still relatively low.

Assuming prolotherapy either isn't an option OR it doesn't work, I have some difficult decisions to make. Do I resign myself to not running and maybe cycling for the remainder of my life? (that makes me all kinds of sad just THINKING it!!) Or do I risk the danger of developing a blood clot - at best similar to what I've dealt with before/at worst...heh.

    Helluva a choice huh?!?
