The cockpit of Heather Jackson’s Cannondale Slice features 51SS extensions and cups from Boulder-based 51 Speedshop, the brainchild of bike-fitting guru Mat Steinmetz. According to Steinmetz, Jackson preferred the termination angle of these extensions as compared to others that she has tried. Reportedly the cups and pads provide an extremely stable platform and cradle the arm well, which allows the athlete to relax on the front end of the bike.

CeramicSpeed bearings allow the Shimano Dura Ace to spin more freely than with standard bearings. CeramicSpeed claims an entire ceramic upgrade, including hubs, bottom bracket, and derailleur pulleys, can save 6-9 watts of energy, which could equate to a time savings of up to 9 minutes in an Ironman.
